| Tiivistelmä: | The authors recently conducted a survey of manufacturing enterprises in Beijing in order to identify the major factors contributing to the termination of ongoing R&D projects and to help managers make better termination decisions. The authors concentrated on project termination in the development stage because of the considerable resources consumed in this stage. After examining the literature and talking with R&D managers and experts, the authors were able to identify 41 relevant variables. The authors then designed a questionnaire and collected data on 217 R&D projects undertaken between 1997 and 1999 by manufacturing firms from 17 different industries in Beijing. There were 152 successful projects and 65 failed projects, mostly involved with R&D and technological innovation. |
