| Tiivistelmä: | How can the manufacturing function reach its operational goals? This paper addresses the question in two ways: 1) The existing literature and empirical evidence on why the implementation of manufacturing strategies may fail is examined. 2) In order to aid implementation of manufacturing strategies, a conceptual framework and managerial tool that explicitly links opeational actions with operational performance is developed. In specific, the focus is on how the whole operations or manufacturing function should be viewed and managed from a strategic perspective, and how the notion of manufacturing capabilities and competitive manufacturing should be conceptualized. |
