| Tiivistelmä: | This paper shows that ownership (here as: o-ship) structures (as: strs.) vary considerably across the largest European economies, and that o-ship has a significant impact on firm performance (as: perf). It is demonstrated that o-ship strs. in Europe are not necessarily consistent with value maximisation principles. Ultimately, the results show that dominant shareholders have a negative impact on long-term share price perf. These findings are in contradiction to similar research based on U.S. samples. |
