Tiivistelmä: | Multinational companies (MNCs) are increasingly complementing or substituting traditional expatriate assignments (here as: assgs.) with other types of international assgs (or: 'non-standard international assignments') which include short-term, commuter, rotational, contractual and virtual assgs, out of which the most popular one continues to be the short-term assignment. In this paper, data from an exploratory study of 11 large Finnish multinationals is used to explore aspects relating to short-term international assgs. While there are similarities to traditional long-term assgs., the differences pose special human resource (HR) challenges. |
