Tiivistelmä:This paper explores the human capital (henceforth as: h-c.) profile of new appointees to corporate boards (here as: c-bds.), exploring gender differences in education, career and profile experiences (as: exp./exps). Based on a study of U.K. boards, it is found that women (here as: f.) are significantly more likely to bring international diversity to their boards and to possess an MBA degree. New male (as: m.) directors are significantly more likely to have c-bds. exp., incl. CEO/COO roles, whereas new f. appointees are significantly more likely to have exp. as directors on boards of smaller firms. This study's evidence contradicts the view reported by some chairmen that f. lack adequate h-c. for boardroom positions.
