| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper the author questions the notion which has been recently brought up in the writing of Booth and others concerning that British manufacturing did not fail in the post-Second World War long boom, from 1950 to 1973. In addition the author questions the claim that manufacturing is of less significance to economic growth than services. The author suggests that through all the traditional measures of performance - output growth rates, exports, profitability and growth rates and levels - it can be shown that British manufacturing was out-competed by its rivals. |
