| Tiivistelmä: | Time-use surveys enable researchers to measure not only paid work but also unpaid work, and as such they are informative in the analyses of these two types of work. Given that paid work is often men's work and unpaid work women's, time-use surveys also serve as a way of exploring gendered division of labour. Several time-use survey experts have contributed to this exploration that discusses the potential and challenges of implementing these surveys to the countries of the South. In particular, time budget surveys in South Africa, Latin America and Asia are discussed. The contributions of the time-use survey experts give evidence to the fact that time-use surveys in diverse locations in the South vary both in terms of objectives and methods. However, all contributors highlight the importance of time-use surveys in raising awareness of the role of women's unpaid work in contributing to a country's economy. |
