Tiivistelmä:Based on data from 43 countries, this study explores the environmental context of female representation (herein as: f-reprn.) on corporate boards (henceforth as: c-bds.) of directors. It is suggested that f-reprn. on c-bds. may be shaped by the larger environment, incl. the political, social and economic structures in individual countries. Logit regression is used to perform the analysis. It is found that countries with higher f-reprn. on c-bds. are more likely to have women in senior management and more equal ratios of male to female pay. However, it is found that countries with a longer tradition of f-reprn. in politics are less likely to have high levels of f-reprn. on c-bds.
