Tiivistelmä:Large-scale surveys now provide good evidence that changes in labour relations institutions occurred on a wide basis in British manufacturing during the 1970s. Variation within and between industries. The reform generally had limited effects on job control. Case study material made it possible to analyze the interaction between technical and social factors accounting for job control. Some limited success was observed in pay determination and unofficial strikes. Examples of conflicts and conflict resolution. The workers' control over the labour process, over intensity and distribution of effort depends on power relations. The role of working groups and the shop-floor management in dealing with labour relations problems.
