| Tiivistelmä: | A meticulous analysis of the real activities of keyboard operators in daily newspapers confirms the differences between formal rules and implicit norms. The problems and main objectives of the research are summarized. The importance of the flexibility in technical conditions and that of the rigidity in organizational matters is stressed. The regulations about work speed that operators apply in order to bring the newspapers out at the deadline are not followed blindly. The ways in which the official presciptions are challenged conform to a logic of efficiency. What is productive and what is clandestine often go hand in hand. |
