Tiivistelmä:A study of two types of factors that influence the rate of creation of new firms: macroeconomic and microeconomic. The authors suggest the macroeconomic climate conductive to the formation of small businesses is sluggish, but lower GNP growth rates, lower inflation rates and greater growth in the unemployment rate were followed by increases in new incorporations. The review suggests that cross-sectional or microeconomic factors that lead to higher rates of entry into various industries include growths and development in rates of sales, research, intensity and profit rates. None of the traditional barriers to entry were found to be related to the rate of new firm creation. Four equations and four Tables are given, while the appendix outlines industries.
