Tiivistelmä:Eighty-nine of the largest US corporations have been sized down and survived. Companies that have been sized down successfully have followed good downsizing practices. It means, they have performed careful analysis, they have communicated effectively, and they have followed a logical sequence from organizational design to implementation. Companies are discovering that their performance after downsizing can be good in an attempt is made to balance the organization. Organizational balancing means eliminating nonessential work, restructuring jobs, and reinforcing new values. One of the most successful examples is the National Semiconductor Corporation (NSC). NSC was hit hard by fluctuation in the market in 1985 and 1986, but it recovered within a year.
