Tiivistelmä:In the last years Japan has moved to liberalize its regulations on domestic and external transactions. The rationale for financial liberalization or deregulation and the next with the impacts of liberalization on domestic financial equilibrium are analyzed. One view is that financial deregulation was a consequence of USA pressures. Another one suggests that liberalization was an irremediable consequence of the financial situation in the late seventies. The influence of the USA is described as rather redundant with the existing imbalance in Japan. The new financial balance in Japan is outlined pointing at the losers of this new equilibrium and measuring its effect on the several components of the Japanese financial system.
