| Tiivistelmä: | The author examines the role of OR in developing production schedules at different levels. It is shown that some areas and problems are more receptive than others. Analytic techniques are appropriate for smaller and well-determined problems, while in other cases flexible, integrative and robust scheduling systems should be developed. Production scheduling is connected to Materials Requirements Planning and Just-in-Time Production. Finally, the interface between theory and practice is discussed. |
