| Tiivistelmä: | The electric utility industry still maintains uniform, average-cost pricing, provides a single quality of service to most customers, and is largely uncompetitive. The impact of recent advances in information and telecommunication technologies and the opportunities that they offer for cost saving, efficiency gains and service improvements, is described, arguing that the time has arrived to market electricity as something other than a homogeneous commodity. By making efficient pricing possible, average cost will fall, consumers can be given a number of options regarding the precise price-service combinations they want and prices can be more strategically set to ensure that no group of customers is unprofitably driven away. |
