| Tiivistelmä: | A fine paper distributor is examined which is selling to small and medium-sized printers. In summary, a large product line, plus space constraints on inventory in the major markets, lead to a considerable increase in sales. Two models are developed. The linear programming model is outlined, actually a mixed-integer programming model, as well as its objective function and constraints, and the cases studied. Details of the methods, the results of the linear programming and conclusions are given. The respective results of the models are compared, and, more generally, the relative merits of simulation and optimization in logistics system design are discussed. |
