| Tiivistelmä: | The development of the semiconductor industry is reviewed in the newly industrialized countries of the Pacific region, using Taiwan's experience as an example. Taiwan's processes of technology development, manufacturing and marketing of semiconductors, its recent, successful international joint venture, and the market structure of semiconductors in Taiwan are also discussed. A conceptual model is developed and lessons to be learned from Taiwan's experience by other, less developed, countries, are generalized. Recommendations for American semiconductor manufacturers to regain their export dominance in this industry are also presented. |
