Tiivistelmä:Governments in the more open countries of Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, and increasingly in the Soviet Union, are aware that a good telecommunications infrastructure is the first thing they need in order to attract other industries and trade. A telecom network cannot be bought like consumer goods and shipped by the truckload. It has to be planned and installed over a long-period of time. In many cases it's the only option to build a completely new network than to try to upgrade what is there today. The principle of the ground-breaking trunk overlay is likely to be followed in all Eastern European countries. Satellite and radio communications will also play an important part in this process.
