| Tiivistelmä: | In 1989, after years of discussions, the United Nations presented a code of ethical conduct for multi-national corporations. Recent dramatic political changes together with the growing global economy increase the need for such a code and may enhance its chances of adoption. However, enforcement would be problematical unless the United Nations acquires more tools, such as a "super agency". The conceptual model suggested is that of a trilateral relationship between multinational corporations, host countries, and home countries. In terms of content and concept, the United Nations code owes a great deal to the Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises adopted by the European Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in 1976. |
