Tiivistelmä:The decline of employment in German manufacturing industries is frequently attributed to technological progress, declines in demand and to increases in labor costs. Using business survey data , the study assesses the relative importance of the three factors in 16 industries. Our short-run analysis shows that mostly the technological progress, sometimes the declines in demand and never the increases in labor cost are decisive.
