| Tiivistelmä: | A simple manpower model is described and it is shown how a spreadsheet system is useful for rapid development of models and for the production of unsophisticated results. It is also shown that the spreadsheet approach has limitations and once a model starts to grow it can outgrow the spreadsheet approach. It is also shown how management tends to favour "quick and dirty" approach to modelling. As sophisticated models take time to build and senior personnel change jobs rapidly, the effort and time required to build such models is often not justified as the client of the project may have moved on before the results are ready. |
