Tiivistelmä:Relevant literature concerning previous research into export success is discussed. An empirical research of 165 small and medium-sized firms in the Netherlands explores differences in export success between companies; firm characteristics, marketing strategy, and attitude are investigated. Results show that the most important universal success factors are: unique products, good quality, good contacts, focus strategy, commitment towards exporting, market knowldge, and effective use of distribution channels. How to increase the chances of export success is suggested.
