| Tiivistelmä: | Attention is restricted to the case of prescribed sizes. Knowing the range of sizes that can be stocked and knowing something about the distribution of population demands across various sizes, the problem can be stated as the quantity of each size to be stocked, as a function of the total budget available for acquisition of stock. An optimal allocation procedure for any given stock budget is developed. This is compared against a proportional allocation scheme. Some numerical illustrations are presented. Sensivity to the assumption that the total demand is accurately known is examined, followed by an outline of how to deal explicitly with the case where the total demand has a known probability distribution. |
