| Tiivistelmä: | There has been a successful reform of the public enterprises in the last few years in Italy and Austria. The performance of these firms has been improved, the number of sectors in which public enterprises are associated with deficit are reduced. The large public firms, IRI and ENI in Italy, Austrian Industries in Austria show new vitality. Similar development has been observed in other countries. In light of this, the new identity and importance of public enterprises is analyzed. The new goals and strategies of these companies are investigated. The means and possibilities of keeping a balance between business and political interest in public enterprises are explored. |
