| Tiivistelmä: | For years it has been possible for people to use their Visa and Mastercard credit cards around the world without problems. In the late 1980s there was a flurry of forecasts and predictions for a similar globalization of other methods of handling money: universally available networks of cash dispensers, a European (at least) debit card system, instant international cash transfers and, of course, the famous "cashless society". The trouble with those forecasts was that they drew on faulty assumptions. Nevertheless, there are some fairly encouraging signs as far as Europe is concerned. |
