| Tiivistelmä: | Orimulsion is a new power station and industrial fuel developed by the Venezuelan national oil company (PDVSA). The paper analyses the creation of, and the prospects for Orimulsion in the context of the Venezuelan oil industry's development. After examining the importance of oil for the country's economy, the article discusses the attempts by PDVSA to exploit these resources and the problems they have encountered. After describing the characteristics of Orimulsion, the new fuel is placed in the context of PDVSA's strategy over the 1980s of diversification and joint ventures. It is assessed, how the balance of energy markets and government policy may shape the fuel's future prospects. |
