Tiivistelmä:The UK market for biscuits can be divided into three categories: chocolate /including half and fully coated biscuits and countlines/, sweet /including semi-sweet, cream and jam filled and assortments/, plain /including plain biscuits, oatcakes and wafers/. The market is large and stable, but by no means static. In 1989, the market was worth some GBP 961 million, up 4.6 percent; in volume terms, the market declined by 2 percent. Retail biscuit sales is 2.5 percent of total consumer expenditure on food. The non-sweet sector had the highest growth rate in 1989, increasing by 8.4 percent. Chocolate biscuits have previously been the most buoyant sector but only 3.6 percent growth was achieved in 1989.
