| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines visitors' motivations at an English cathedral. Also, the role of heterotopia played in their motives is explored. More than 1/3 of visitors to Chichester Cathedral seem to be motivated by a subconscious search for a spiritual experience, hidden by rational motives e.g. interest in history. It is concluded by examining the management implications arising from a potential lack of understanding about visitors' motivations. Cathedral managers should acknowledge their visitors' intrinsic sense of spirituality, recognizing their spiritual motivations through interpretation etc. |
