| Tiivistelmä: | It is demonstrated that managers in Japan and other Asian countries may have a competitive advantage over their counterparts in the United States and Europe. The cultural roots of economic growth are examined. Eastern thought emphasizes the art of synthesis and it is not preoccupied with analysis as is Western thought. Confucius and his teachings are discussed. The influence of cultural inheritances is dealt with. The problem of measurement of cultural differences is analyzed. Two cases of cultural measurement are described: the one is the so-called IBM studies, the other is the Chinese value survey. Some cross-cultural comparisons are made. The strategic importance of local cultural patterns is emphasized. |
