Tiivistelmä:Based on an empirical study of 20,610 companies with more than 200 employees in 18 European countries, this paper deals with the question of newly evolving organizational forms. Using human resource management as an example it shows that there is mixed evidence. In structural aspects, the changes observed do not match the characteristics of new organizational forms. The only notable exception is the size of the HR department which has consistently decreased in nearly all countries. On the other hand, in terms of HR practices, the developments are more consistent with the assumptions about typical characteristics of new organsational forms. In summary, the development towards new organsational forms is not as fast and as radical as many advocates of a best practice approach claim.
