| Tiivistelmä: | Music can be thought of as a language, i. e. a system what is organised according to specific rules into a hierarchic structure with different levels. The language of music has three such levels: the level of individual sounds, the harmonic level and the level of articulation. Different styles use different rules on each level. The article describes the harmonic level of the first period of Beethoven. |
