| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the notion of the virtual in Bergson's thinking and critically discuss the use of the concept of the virtual in the discourse on the "virtual organization" in organization theory. In Bergson's philosophy, the virtual is a central and metaphysical concept that is used to break with idealist forms of thinking and transcendental philosophy. On the other hand, in the discussion of the virtual organization, the virtual implicity denotes qualities such as spatial distribution of the company, the dissolution of company boundaries, flexible forms of organizing, and the use of various forms of computer-based technologies. Rather than being a construct founded on and integrated ontological and epistemological framework, the notion of the virtual organization therefore appears to serve as a managerial buzzword that seeks to capture a broad variety of new organizational and managerial strategies (original in Swedish). |
