Tiivistelmä: | The number of e-marketplaces, including a variety of electronic exchanges in the B2B arena, has exploded, while many of these have also collapsed. The question addressed in this paper is what are the underlying factors that affect which transactions are likely to be supportable by B2B exchanges. The authors identify and study three factors in particular: 1) supplier management, 2) idiosyncratic investments in information systems and 3) codifiability (digitalizability) of product and order-fulfillment specifications underlying transactions. |
