Tiivistelmä:This article focuses on choices for tertiary municipal wastewater treatment by comparing the benefits and costs of using forested wetlands and conventional sand treatment. The study is conducted by using money-based and energy-based cost-benefit analyses. The wetland method has higher cost-benefit ratio than the traditional method for with the utilization of natural energy resources such as sun, wind and rain, the wetland method treats more wastewater per unit of energy with less financial cost. It is concluded that wastewater addition also increases net primary productivity of land and elevates the wetlands.
