Tiivistelmä:The latest attack of the Office of Management and Budget on public health and safety regulation is its campaign to effect a whole scale restructuring of agency procedures for assessing cancer risks. Cancer risks assessment is the cutting edge of science. The final assumption challenged by the Office involves the use of mathematical models to extrapolate from animal data involving high levels of exposure to the low level of human exposure. The Office's lack of expertise has not kept it from overruling agency scientists and peer reviewers on less technically complex issues than cancer risk assessment. The argument against the Office's involvement in cancer policy involves the agencies' adherence to cost-benefit analysis.
