Tiivistelmä:Pauly (1990) claims that a competitive health care system will solve the health care cost crisis in the U.S. The present author shows that the competitive solution does not eliminate - and may even not improve - five central problems: 1) lack of insurance for nursing homes and home care; 2) insufficient payment for health services for the poor; 3) emergence of dual system; 4) waste and inefficiency of the health care system; and 5) consumer's inability to judge the quality of health system.
