| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the effect of changes in the amount of business owners on three measures of economic performance: employment growth, GDP growth and labor productivity growth. Special focus is given on the lag structure. Using data for 21 OECD countries, the findings confirm previous evidence on three phases in the effect of entry on economic performance. The results show the existence of an initial phase with direct positive effect, followed by a second phase with a negative effect due to exiting capacities and finally the third phase with positive supply-side effects. The net effect is found to be positive for employment and GDP growth, but no effect is found for labor productivity. |
