Tiivistelmä:One significantly beneficial effect of economics on contemporary political science has been methodological. It was necessary to come up with an equally logical deductive argument from equally reasonable first assumptions that led to empirical predictions that were somewhat closer to the world as political scientists could measure it. The casual, verbal argument, supported by selected case evidence was no longer sufficient to carry the day. The primary contribution of economists was to force political scientists to terms of rigorous, formal argument. The nature of a serious argument about voting, interest groups, or coalitions changed with the offerings of economists. By now , a significant proportion of the discipline relies on mathematical arguments as sophisticates as those in economics.
