Tiivistelmä:This commentary on the Devezas-Corredine paper raises three questions: how do we think and how do we need to think about K-waves, what causes K-waves in the Devezas-Corredine model, and in what sense do social and biological factors add to a better understanding of large-scale structural changes in the world economy. In conclusion the author states: 1) K-waves are, in the first place, important long-term economic processes and as evolutionary processes they also have extensive social and biological foundations and ramifications; but they are not the only such processes of broad basis and wide impact. 2) The learning effects are suggestive but need empirical content and clarification. 3) The generational effects function as a social clock, and need continued study.
