| Tiivistelmä: | The media coverage of industrial disasters is an important factor affecting the resolution of risk disputes and the formation of acceptable policies for controlling risk. The media dominate the avenues of public information. They serve as filters through which the public receives news and interpretations of accidents such as those that occurred at Basle or Bhopal. They act as culture brokers, framing social reality, shaping public consciousness and reinforcing existing myths. Through their coverage or non-coverage of issues they can set the agenda of public policies and affect their implementation. |
