| Tiivistelmä: | Throughout the last 20 years, there was a strong trend in pharmaceutical companies towards outsourcing of pharmaceutical product development activities to Contract Research Organisations. A transaction cost based empirical study of this phenomenon which was focussed on the Federal Republic of Germany revealed that transaction cost theory offers a solid basis for the theoretical explanation of the observed outsourcing-tendency and consequently for the continuous growth of the market for pharmaceutical contract research activities. |
