| Tiivistelmä: | The article explores variable pay schemes(VPS) in banking in Austria, Norway, Spain, and United Kingdom. The findings indicate that VPS is extensively used in all of the four countries and they also share similar managerial objectives in terms of cost control and performance management. A common direction for VPS is towards individual merit pay and multiple bonus arrangements that enable increasing scope for management discretion. |
