Tiivistelmä:Focusing on men, this study re-examines two established findings on the effect of (herein as: eff.) education (henceforth as: educn.) on family formation. It is explored whether the eff. on fertility (as: fert.) of timing of departure from educn. and type of educn. (as: t-of-e.) found among women in Spain also apply for men. Based data from the Spanish Family and Fertility Survey and applying event history models, it is shown that, for men, t-of-e. is as important as level of educn. Yet, the mechanism linking men's field of study to their fert. behaviour is quite the opposite to women's. In addition, and contrary to the female sample's results, neither process for men appears to be partially determined by common determinants.
