| Tiivistelmä: | The development of literature in the field of the new product development process over the past four decades is reviewed. Special attention is paid to the early work identifying factors associated with success or failure. Systematic comparisons of successful and unsuccessful innovations of like nature are made. It is shown that much of the research work is unknown to many product development managers. More recently publications have described innovation strategies or been analytical reviews. The remarkable consistency in the results showing that factors influencing success or failure have remained largely unchanged throughout the period is emphasized. Some attempts at translating the results into effective action are described. |
