Tiivistelmä:In order to advance the goals of ecosystem management (here as: mgmt.), collaborative approaches to natural resource mgmt. have been promoted as ways to broaden participation and community (as: cmmty.) involvement. This study explores collaboration and sharing mgmt. responsibility for U.S. Federal public land with local communities through a case study of the Ashland Municipal Watershed in Oregon, U.S. In order to analyse cmmty. participation and institutional relationships btw. the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, and local city government in the planning processes of five land mgmt. actions in a 7-year period, a policy sciences approach is used. The knowledge gained from exploration is used to suggest future planning processes to sustain and develop the cmmty. capacity necessary to support implementation of cmmty-based ecosystem mgmt.
