| Tiivistelmä: | The second half of 1997 saw the formal signing of the New Amsterdam Treaty, a summit devoted specifically to employment, and a solution to the problem of how to give legal effect to the UK's social policy "opt-in" ahead of the Treaty's entering into force. Consequently, two Directives have been adopted, on a whole-Community basis, extending the provisions of the EWCs and parental leave directives to the UK. Other whole-Community developments include the Commission's proposal for a Directive on occupational pensions. |
