| Tiivistelmä: | The final draft EU charter of fundamental rights, which sets out a variety of social and economic rights, was adopted by the drafting committee in October and agreement on the content was subsequently reached at the Biarritz Council. The draft recognises key rights such as trade union rights, the right to strike, the right to collective bargaining and the right of workers to information and consultation. In this article the process that led to the final draft charter and the controversy surrounding its legal status are reviewed. |
