| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper the authors attempt to empirically identify the state and the determinants of financial reporting on the Internet by Swiss listed companies. Our findings are based on a systematic random sampling of 89 companies that are listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange. To capture the extent of web-based financial reporting, an empirical survey was conducted using a standardized questionnaire with a total of 36 items to be expected to be reported on corporate web sites. A firm specific disclosure index Dil was awarded to each firm, computed as the ratio of the observed disclosure score Di to the maximum score a specific firm would be able to achieve. A multiple linear regression model is used to examine to what extent Internet financial reporting can be explained by firm-specific characteristics. We find voluntary disclosure on the Internet to be positively associated with the size of the firm and the degree of informational asymmetries, as measured by dispersed ownership and stock price volatility. |
