Tiivistelmä: | Organizations appear more adaptable when they control the decision to change rather than the environment controlling it, and when the change is normal and routine rather than non-routine for that type or form of organization. Environment as institution focuses on the role of the environment in change. When control of change is taken away from the organization and located in the environment, than selection favours organizational inertia and organizations often resist change even when threatened with extinction. Changes in the institutional environment have strong effects on organizational death rates, surprisingly stronger than task environment variables. |
