Tiivistelmä:For smaller hospitals the conventional approach of computerization, establishing an internal data processing department and its professionals then beginning to develop computer-based information systems, is doubtful. A conceptual framework for computerization is presented, focusing on patients' medical information and special requirements. The strategy of abstracting patients' data for information system design was adopted and implemented in a Taiwanese hospital. Test results showed that computerization was satisfactory. This indicates that an adequate software package can provide the opportunity to proceed to a low cost and easily implemented computerized system without establishing an internal data processing department.
